Fly Fighter Jet - In the world of aviation, the past year will be remembered for the far-reaching effects of one destructive factor: the pandemic. COVID-19 has prompted airlines to cut flights, phase out older aircraft and find the cost of flying cargo.
In addition to the big stories, highlight the coolest tech innovations in space as part of the Best in News awards. In addition, we remember Chuck Yeager's record-setting career.

We kicked off 2020 with an exclusive first look at the 2019 aerial incident involving an F-15C fighter jet piloted by a student pilot in Oregon. While the equipment and muscle exercises known as AGSM help pilots control the Gs they feel, in this case the student pilot went crazy anyway. (The Air Force knows the cause of the crash but won't release that information.) The jet suffered more than $2.5 million in damage due to what's known as a "G-pull," but luckily both the student and the instructor (who were on separate jets) ) landed safely. The event is a reminder of the dangers that military aircraft face even during training.
Indian Fighter Jets Scramble Following False Bomb Threat On Iranian Plane
On January 18, a Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai experienced engine trouble and turned back shortly after takeoff. In this case, before landing, the pilots of a Boeing 777 jet dumped fuel to lighten the plane, which splashed onto the people below. A total of 60 people need medical assistance. After the incident, we look at why and how large commercial jets spill fuel before an unplanned landing, and why planes need to have a safe landing weight in the first place.
Speaking of landings, this February a giant A380 made a difficult landing in London in high winds. This video shows the plane moving to one side as it lands - you might just hold your breath as you watch. Hard landings have taught us how pilots can land their planes safely in strong winds.
In early March, we had the opportunity to explore the Air Force B-52 bomber and spend time with its crew at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana. These relatively ancient aircraft still figure prominently in the Air Force's plans for its bomber fleet, even as it looks to the future with the stealthy new B-21 Raider. For photos, videos and words from the B-52, including an explanation of what his nickname, BUFF, stands for - see feature.
A B-52H on the morning of the flight. Its serial number is 61-0010, which means Congress appropriated money to build it in 1961, according to Boeing. The only B-52s the Air Force flies today are the H models, which are obsolete. Rob Verger

It's been a terrible year for wildfires in California. While firefighters on the ground are responsible for putting out the flames, they have a key ally: tanker planes and helicopters that help them fight the flames from the air. We explored how these aerial tools do their vital work and spoke to a smokejumper who launched himself from planes 3,000 feet above the ground.
Aviation enthusiasts may consider flying non-stop around the world in a large aircraft such as the Airbus A350. In November, Singapore Airlines launched its longest flight; it connects Singapore to Kennedy Airport in New York City. The total flight time from North America to Asia is 18 hours 40 minutes, measured in gate-to-gate "block time". That's a lot of time to be on a plane. We've broken down the flight into numbers, examining metrics like how many pounds of fuel such a trip would require. And speaking of perks, in October we also looked at the world's largest jet engine, the turbofan powering Boeing's new 777x.
The Air Force's U-2 spy planes have been sniping from the skies for decades, but earlier this month one plane did something impossible during the Cold War: It used artificial intelligence to control and scan missiles to control its radar. During the training mission, the launchers were an Air Force AI "operational aircraft member" — a first for any U.S. military aircraft. We've revealed the details we'll share about the mission, as well as other ways military AI has worked in flight.

Boeing's F-15EX fighter jet, considered the most advanced version of the F-15, has completed its first test flight, a milestone that will facilitate early delivery of the first two aircraft to the US Air Force. (USA).
During the flight, Boeing F-15 Chief Test Pilot Matt Giese evaluated the multi-role jet's avionics, advanced systems and software. A ground test team monitoring the flight data then determined that the plane had flown as planned.
"Today's successful flight demonstrates the aircraft's safety and readiness to join our nation's fighter fleet," said Prat Kumar, Boeing vice president and F-15 program manager.

"Our staff is excited to build a state-of-the-art combat aircraft for the USAF. Our customer can be confident in their decision to invest in this platform, which is capable of integrating the latest advanced combat control systems, sensors and weapons, thanks to the jet's digital airframe design and open mission system architecture.
In July last year, Boeing received a $1.2 billion contract from the USAF to build the first batch of eight aircraft. The company now plans to take delivery of two F-15EX fighter jets later this quarter.
In total, the program aims to acquire a total of 144 jets. The F-15EX is equipped with the Eagle passive/active warning and survivability electronic warfare system and is expected to replace the aging F-15C/D aircraft in the service's inventory.
Boeing recently received a license from the US government to supply the F-15EX fighter jet to the Indian Air Force (IAF).
